TOWN OF FLOWERS AND BIRDS

The name Suchitoto, means flower bird(Pájaro Flor) in nahuat, the language of the main indigenous group that inhabited this region.

Suchitoto is a small colonial town in the department of Cuscatlán, located only an hour north east of the capital city of San Salvador. With cobblestone streets and panoramic views of the surrounding mountains and Lake Suchitlán, beautiful Suchitoto has preserved its historical

architecture of the late 1800's, and is known as the cultural capital of El Salvador.

From the late 1970's to the early 1990's, Suchitoto was nearly abandoned due to the armed conflict, which hit the area especially hard. Today, the surrounding rural communities have been repopulated program, whose residents have a powerfulhistory to share.

Suchitoto has slowly turned into one of the main tourist towns of El Salvador bothfor national and international tourists, whoare attracted by its quaint streets and beautiful setting, its many local artisans
and galleries, cafes, restaurants, and outdoor activities.
